Washed Process
How does it work?
Washed coffee is your standard, bold, dark-chocolate coffee, the most common process used to craft your cup of coffee.
After coffee cherries are selectively picked from the coffee plants, the cherries are rinsed thoroughly in buckets of water. After rinsing, the cherries are ran through a "despulpadora," the pulp removing machine. Here, the cherries are removed, leaving the husk of the bean with a viscous substance around it. The viscous substance is rinsed off and the husks are placed on a drying bed.
They will remain on drying beds until the appropriate humidity level is reached. The typical humidity level wanted for coffee is between 10-12%. A bean with too much humidity will have a short shelf life making this drying process a very important piece of the coffee puzzle.
